Amazon Polpas aware of its position in the food chain and its importance as the social, economic and environmental aspects, establishes its commitment to carry out a focused corporate culture to reduce environmental impacts to a minimum. Such impacts are those that can be results of own production and technological processes.
Thus in order to demonstrate the organization's ability to use natural resources responsibly and intelligently, the company sets some strategic actions that represent a starting point for a sustainable food production:
Processing Waste Management:
This activity is to establish a systematic methodology for the treatment of processing waste in order to avoid contamination of food staff and the environment, as well as the health risks. Thus, the waste of the process are conducted to silos where they are eventually destined for burning in kilns (seeds and sludge). Discarded packaging will be recycled.
Use of Process Waste in Steam Generation:
This process is the use of seed, which are residues from the açai processing, to feed a boiler designed to burn this type of material. The energy generated from this process is used to generate steam for the thermal treatment of products (pasteurization). By using this waste as fuel, Amazon Polpas will gradually reduce the use of firewood, avoiding cutting plant species in the region, which has been traditionally used for this purpose.
Water can be used by the industry in several ways: for incorporation into the product, washing machines, pipes and floors in cooling systems and steam generators, on the same industrial process and in toilets.
The ideal industrial effluent treatment is indicated according to the pollutant load and the presence of contaminants. Only experts can evaluate and carry out the collection of samples for analysis of various parameters representing the organic load and the toxic load of effluent.
In the Amazon Polpas treatment process, chemicals are used in the process, such as coagulation and flocculation agents. Such substances help to remove pollutants by chemical reactions, in addition to conditioning the mixture effluent to be treated in subsequent processes. The process is carried out in a tank called Anaerobic filter upflow.
The final step consists of physical processes which are processes that remove settleable solids and floating suspension by physical separations such as sorting boxes oils and fats, sedimentation and filter comprising a box containing pebble and activated carbon.
Renewable Sources of Energy:
Amazon Polpas signed a contract with a generation company and supplier of energy. From October 2016, the company will change its captive power system and switch to free market energy, which is entirely renewable. Thus, the energy used in the process will come from wind farms, biomass and solar energy.
